Aerojet Rocketdyne has announced it is ready to start producing large solid rocket motor carbon fiber cases in Huntsville.
That’s after completing the installation of a carbon fiber-winding machine, which will begin producing large solid rocket motor cases for missile defense target vehicles, starting early next year. The fibers form the structural case of large solid rocket motors.
The fiber-winding machine was transferred from Sacramento, Calif., to the company’s Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, It is capable of producing motor cases up to 72 inches in diameter and 22 feet long, large enough to support strategic missile programs.
