Overview
The ELM-2090 Terra radar is an Israeli Dual Band Radar comprised of the ELM-2090s Spectra S-Band radar and the ELM-2090U Ultra UHF-Band Radar.[i] It has been designed to offer extended air- and missile-defense coverage against new and evolving air threats. Combining the long-range capabilities of the UHF radar and the high resolution offered by the S-Band radar, Terra offers very long range and large volume search, accurate tracking, and target classification for various threat targets.[ii]
Strategic Implications
The Terra Dual Band Radar is strategically valuable because of its automatic handover and redundancy between the two radars, combined with improved target load sharing, Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM), and severe weather resilience.[iii] The Terra can also provide countries with accurate prediction of impact and launch point estimation, making it particularly invaluable in high conflict areas, like the Middle East.[iv]
