MDAA is honored to announce John Middleton as the first MG John G. Rossi Military Fellow.

John is currently a graduate student in the Defense and Strategic Studies program at the DC campus of Missouri State University with a focus on Weapons of Mass Destruction.  He serves as a Platoon Leader for a Combat Engineer Company in the Missouri National Guard. John received his commission from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO where he earned a B.A. in International Relations with a focus on the Middle East. He studied abroad for a semester in Amman, Jordan at the University of Jordan in a language and culture immersion program.

MDAA established the Major General John G. Rossi Military Fellowship in the Fall of 2016. This fellowship is open to current members of the United States armed forces and veterans who exemplify the exceptional characteristics of its namesake. MG Rossi Military Fellows collaborate with the MDAA Communications and Government Relations staff on various projects. This fellowship provides service members and veterans an opportunity to enhance their understanding of an important aspect of American defense policy.

The positon is named in honor of Major General John G. Rossi, former Commanding General of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence. MG Rossi was an exceptional leader in the field of air and missile defense. Prior to commanding FIRES, MG Rossi was the director of the Army Quadrennial Defense Review Office and served as the commanding general of the 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command, Fort Bliss, Texas. Before he passed away, MG Rossi was nominated by the President to take command of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command.

Requirements to apply for the MG John Rossi Military Fellowship can be found below:

  • Current member or veteran of any branch of the United States Armed Services
  • Has an interest in Missile Defense, Public Policy, or Foreign Affairs
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate and write effectively
  • Has good research skills
  • Ideal candidate is currently enrolled in either undergraduate or graduate program

MDAA is the only organization in existence whose primary mission is to educate the American public about missile defense issues and to recruit, organize, and mobilize proponents to advocate for the critical need of missile defense. We are a non-partisan membership-based and membership-funded organization that does not advocate on behalf of any specific system, technology, architecture or entity.
