US Top Nuke Envoy to Visit S. Korea for KIDD Meeting

The U.S.’ top nuclear envoy will visit South Korea to attend the 8th Korea-U.S. Integrated Defense Dialogue (KIDD).

A South Korean government official said that the U.S. Department of State’s Special Representative for North Korea Policy Sung Kim will arrive in South Korea Tuesday afternoon.

Opening on Wednesday, the two-day defense meeting will focus on ways to militarily suppress nuclear and long-range missile tests by North Korea.

In particular, the two countries will devise defensive plans against the North’s nuclear weapons and missiles. As part of the efforts, they will turn the operational concept of detecting, tracking and destroying North Korean missiles and nuclear weapons into a full operational plan.

South Korean delegates to the KIDD meeting include Ryu Je-seung, chief of the Defense Ministry’s Office of National Defense Policy, and Shin Jae-hyun, director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ North American Affairs Department…
