Fort Hood air defense unit deploys to southwest Asia

FORT HOOD — More than 500 soldiers from a Fort Hood air defense unit are in the process of deploying to the Middle East to participate in Operation Enduring Freedom.

The command team of 1st Battalion, 62nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, cased the units colors this morning during a ceremony at Fort Hood.

The unit is scheduled to be deployed for one year in support of U.S. Central Command operations. Officials did not disclose the country the unit is deploying to, citing operational security.
