Just how busy the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade has been the past couple of years was summed up at a double-dipping ceremony on the Fort Sill Polo Field Wednesday.
The brigade not only said farewell to Col. Janice H. Chen and welcomed Col. Lisa M. Bartel as brigade commander, but it also cased the brigade’s colors for the headquarters’ deployment to the Middle East in the next few days.
Brig. Gen. Christopher Spillman, commanding general of the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Bliss, Texas, noted that since Chen assumed command of the brigade in August 2016 it had consistently prepared its own units for deployment, trained up a National Guard unit, deployed a headquarters to Romania and is ready to send headquarters soldiers (about a hundred of them) to the Middle East.
