Russian company shows new man-portable air-defense missile

A next-generation man-portable air defense system from KBM R&P Corp. has made its public debut in Russia.

The system is called Verba, and it is operational with several brigades and divisions of the Russian Army, according to KBM R&P Corp.

“As a weapon system on the whole, the Verba MANPADS outperforms its foreign and local counterparts,” the company said in a new release.

“The new MANPADS fielded by the Russian armed forces is used to furnish air cover for units against air threats implementing advanced air defense penetration aids and counter-measures, concentrated raids of cruise missiles, and is instrumental in setting up effective close-in protection of important assets by engaging enemy’s aircraft that penetrated distant air defense lines which are overloaded in the modern battlefield by saturated air attacks.”

KBM R&P Corp said the system was shown at last week’s ARMY 2015 International military technology assembly held near Moscow. No additional information on the system was immediately available.
