DOD report: China’s bombers show capability to reach Guam

The latest annual report from the Department of Defense to Congress details developments involving China’s military, which has increased its long-range bombing runs that could reach Guam.

“The (People’s Liberation Army) may continue to extend its operations beyond the first island chain, demonstrating the capability to strike U.S. and allied forces and military bases in the western Pacific Ocean, including Guam,” the report states.

China’s People’s Liberation Army also is developing airstrike capabilities to engage targets as “far away from China as possible,” the report states.

Over the last three years, the PLA has rapidly expanded its bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against U.S. and allied targets, according to the Defense Department.
