PH Navy tests ‘impressive’ missile system from Israel

ABOARD BRP DAVAO DEL SUR: The Philippine Navy on Wednesday tested the newly-acquired missile systems from Israel, which Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana described as “impressive.” Navy personnel were aboard the multi-purpose attack craft (MPAC) that were armed with the Spike-ER missiles and weapons systems.

Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, the Navy flag officer-in-command joined Lorenzana as they witnessed the MPACs engage in three surface targets that included the decommissioned patrol boat BRP Dionisio Ojeda (PC-117) off Limay, Bataan. The first exercise showed the MPACs use of the remote-controlled .50 caliber machine gun and two missile rounds.

An AgustaWestland (AW) 109 helicopter, armed with 2.75-inch, high-explosive rockets, provided air assistance to the MPACs during the drills.
