The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command has submitted a whopping $11 billion budget wish list to Congress, headlined by a push to build up a missile defense web on the island of Guam. The new unfunded priorities list, obtained by POLITICO, outlines the command’s top needs that didn’t make the cut for the fiscal 2025 Pentagon budget released last week.
This year’s list is a significant hike from last year when Indo-Pacific Command sought just a few billion dollars on top of the fiscal 2024 request. It’s a key signal of increased demand for hardware and military presence in the region, where deterring China is a long-term U.S. security goal.
