X-Band Radar Returns to US After Operations off Korean Peninsula

The U.S. Navy is said to have returned a powerful antiballistic missile detection radar system to its base in Hawaii after operating it in waters near the Korean Peninsula for a month.

A senior South Korean government official said Tuesday that the Sea-based X-Band Radar(SBX) returned to Hawaii at the end of last month after conducting operations for a month. The official said the details of the operation and the radar’s transportation route cannot be disclosed due to security reasons.

However, military and government sources say that the radar was dispatched to waters near the Korean Peninsula in preparation against a possible long-range missile launch by North Korea….
