US Congress approved 12.9 billion US dollars for the Romania-based missile defense system

President Klaus Iohannis hails the United States’ strong commitment to European security and defense, reflected in the 2019 Defense budget Congress approved on August 1, which provides for 12.9 billion US dollars in allocations for the Romania-based missile defense system, a release of the Presidential Administration informs on Friday.

According to the cited source, the budget provides for a significant increase in funding for the European Deterrence Initiative, that has 6.5 billion dollars assigned for 2019, by 1.7 billion dollars more compared to 2018.

Budget allocations worth 12.9 billion dollars are earmarked for the missile defense system, including for the support and operation of the Aegis Ashore defense facility in Romania, as part of NATO’s ballistic missile defense system.
