US Ally Receives Boost Against Ballistic Missiles

Japan reached a milestone in defending against Chinese and North Korean ballistic missiles as a future radar system, developed by the United States, has begun testing. Newsweek has contacted China’s Foreign Ministry for comment via email. The North Korean Embassy in Beijing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

China possesses missiles capable of striking Japan, including U.S. military bases there, as part of its efforts to counter the U.S.’s island-chain strategy, which seeks to restrict Beijing’s military activities within its immediate areas in East Asia. Meanwhile, North Korea has frequently conducted missile tests by launching weapons into waters near Japan.
