U.S. Sixth Fleet and STRIKFORNATO Commence Complex Air and Missile Defense Exercise

U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa / U.S. 6th Fleet:


Exercise At-Sea Demo/Formidable Shield (ASD/FS) 2021, a live-fire integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) exercise conducted by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO on behalf of U.S. Sixth Fleet, kicked off today, May 15, 2021 at the U.K. Ministry of Defence’s Hebrides Range in the vicinity of the Western Isles of Scotland.

The exercise exhibits allied interoperability in a live-fire joint IAMD environment, using NATO command and control reporting structures.

“Delivering integrated air and missile defence, and specifically ballistic missile defence, is one of STRIKFORNATO’s primary roles on behalf of the Alliance,” said Rear Adm.
