Turkish “iron dome” missile defence proposed

A plan to create a missile defence system in Turkey’s southeast has been proposed at Turkey’s top defence procurement panel, Burak Ege Bekdil reports for the Defense News website. The project bears similarities to Israel’s “Iron Dome” system

The defence system, to be called “Golden Cage”, is designed to shoot down enemy rockets and missiles at short range using short-range radars and a self-propelled air-defence gun system.

It has been proposed to cover the Turkish border cities of Hatay and Kilis, which have been subject to rocket attacks from across the border in Syria throughout the course of the Syrian civil war.
