Report: Pentagon Wants to Redirect $416M in Funds Toward Missile Defense Programs

The Defense Department has asked Congress to approve a proposal to transfer $416 million from multiple fiscal year 2017 defense accounts to missile defense programs, Defense News reported.

Majority of the requested funds would be taken from unobligated FY 2017 U.S. Army and Army Reserve operations and maintenance accounts, according to a reprogramming proposal signed by DoD Comptroller David Norquist and obtained by Defense News.

The report said DoD wants to use $136 million to increase the number of ground-based interceptors from 44 to 64 as well as build 20 new silos in a new Fort Greely, Alaska-based Missile Field 4.
