A California defense contractor and its Guam subsidiary have been awarded a $181.1 million contract to build part of an $8 billion missile defense system on the U.S. territory in the Pacific. The project calls for construction of a self-powered missile defense site and was awarded to Tutor Perini Corp. of Los Angeles and its Guam unit, Black Construction Inc., the company said in a Tuesday news release.
The work is part of the first phase of the Missile Defense Agency’s Enhanced Integrated Air and Missile Defense system, which is designed to counter cruise, ballistic and hypersonic missiles that could be launched by China or North Korea.
