The United Kingdom is boosting Kyiv’s air defense with the Gravehawk system, designed to integrate Soviet-era missiles into a modern, ground-based platform that is disguised as a shipping container, according to a post by the U.K.’s Ministry of Defense on X (formerly Twitter).
Newsweek reached out to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for comment via email.
Why It Matters
As the Gravehawk system is difficult for Russian forces to detect, it could take out a significant amount of Moscow’s weapons, contributing to the increasing equipment shortage and putting strain on their ability to continue fighting in the war.
The U.K. has been one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters since the war broke out in February 2022, and to date has pledged £12.8 billion in support of Kyiv, according to a research briefing on the British House of Commons Library’s website.
