Raytheon has been awarded a $2.13 billion contract modification to continue providing sustaining engineering and product support services for the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) program, according to a Pentagon announcement. This modification brings the total contract value to $3.33 billion, up from the previous $1.19 billion.

According to the Department of Defense, the contract modification supports ongoing work on multiple variants of the SM-3, serving both U.S. forces and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) partners.

The Standard Missile-3 is a vital component of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system, designed to intercept short- to intermediate-range ballistic missile threats outside the earth’s atmosphere.

As part of the agreement, Raytheon will deliver management, materials, and services essential for sustaining the missile system’s engineering. The work will take place at facilities in Tucson, Arizona, and Huntsville, Alabama, with the contract extending through October 2029.

The Missile Defense Agency, headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, will manage the contract. Raytheon, a subsidiary of RTX Corporation, remains the primary contractor for the SM-3 program. The missile’s demonstrated effectiveness in neutralizing high-altitude ballistic threats has made it a highly valued asset among U.S. allies.
