Lockheed Martin to perform life cycle engineering on Navy Aegis Weapon System in 720 million contract

Shipboard electronics experts at Lockheed Martin Corp. will conduct full development and life-cycle engineering for the U.S. Navy Aegis Weapon System (AWS) fielding for cruisers, destroyers, and Aegis Ashore configurations.

Officials of the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA) in Dahlgren, Va., are asking the Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems segment in Moorestown, N.J., for Aegis Weapon System engineering under terms of a $720 million contract announced on Friday.

The Aegis Weapon System is a centralized, automated, command-and-control, and weapons-control system for Burke-class destroyers, Ticonderoga-class cruisers, and land-based missile-defense sites…
