Lithuania and Norway agree NASAMS deal

Lithuania has agreed to buy the Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) from Norway, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced on 21 October.

In total Lithuania is looking to purchase two batteries of the air-defence system for around EUR100 million (USD109 million).

NASAMS is a surface-launched mounting built by Kongsberg for the Raytheon AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM).

Lithuania’s defence minister, Juozas Olekas, said that the “signature of this technical agreement is one of the most important phases in developing mid-range defence capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. It is excellent that our partner Norway has not only agreed to sell NASAMS equipment, which will strengthen security of Lithuania’s airspace, but also to assist in introducing the system in the Lithuanian Armed Forces.”…
