The Ministry of Defense (MoD) in Tokyo has announced that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) will be conducting rapid deployment exercises of its Patriot PAC-3 missile systems to enhance the service’s response capability against ballistic missiles amid growing military threats from North Korea.
The first such exercise was scheduled to take place on 15 June, with similar drills set to be conducted gradually across Japan, including at facilities not owned by the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), minister of defense Tomomi Inada said in a 13 June press conference.
“This exercise is intended to enhance tactical skills by checking the proficiency in transporting equipment and personnel as well as implementing the procedures for deployment, so that PAC-3 can be promptly and smoothly deployed at facilities where the system may be deployed,” said the minister, according to an MoD statement…
