Japan deploys PAC-3 missile interceptor near North Korea flight path

Japan’s Defense Ministry says it will deploy a missile interceptor, known as PAC3, at a Ground Self-Defense Force post in Hokkaido, northern Japan, as early as Tuesday.

The move comes after 2 North Korean ballistic missiles flew over Hokkaido.

North Korea test-fired a Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile on August 29th and another missile of the same type last week. Both are thought to have crashed into the Pacific Ocean after flying over Cape Erimo in southern Hokkaido.

The PAC3 system is designed to intercept ballistic missiles and their parts near the ground before they fall on Japan.

A PAC3 unit will assemble a radar system and a launcher after the system has been transported to the post from a Ground-Self Defense Force base in Hokkaido…
