Japan says it remains on alert over North Korean military moves

The Japanese government said Wednesday it remains on alert after North Korea announced plans to deploy troops to inter-Korean cooperation sites.

“We remain on alert to respond to any situation,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a news conference.

Patriot Advanced Capability-3, or PAC-3, batteries are deployed to the Defense Ministry’s Ichigaya base in Tokyo, Suga said of the missile interceptors.

But he did not clarify the purpose of the deployment, saying that it relates to troops’ operations.
