Redstone Alabama:

More jobs will soon be coming to the area as Boeing announced plans to expand the Patriot Advanced Capability 3 Missile Seeker program here in the Rocket City.

A groundbreaking was held at Boeing Thursday for the new 28,000 square foot facility which will increase the Patriot workforce by around 40%. That will mean around 70 to 80 more jobs for the area in addition to the jobs provided due to the construction.

The seekers are what guide missiles fired form the Patriot system to their targets.

“We’ve been delivering seekers for the Patriot System, which is the Air and Missile Defense System for about 15 years, the first deliveries were on 9/11,” said Boeing Missile Defense GM Jim Chilton.

“We’ve done upgrades all through the years. Demand is so high that we have to expand the factory to meet it. The demand includes new seekers and it includes rebuilding and putting some of our upgrades in some that are in the field,” he continued.

Chilton says that they expect to be producing the seekers in the new facility by this time next year.
