President Biden during his Oval Office Address on October 19, 2023

Last night President Joseph Biden delivered an Oval Office Address on security aid to Israel and Ukraine after the USS Carney destroyer intercepted missiles launched from Yemen and American bases in Iraq and Syria came under attack from drones and missiles.

President Biden recognized the historical importance of this moment:

“Good evening, my fellow Americans. We’re facing an inflection point in history, one of those moments where the decisions we make today are going to determine the future for decades to come.”

“American leadership is what holds the world together. American alliances are what keep us, America, safe. American values are what make us a partner that other nations want to work with. To put all that at risk if we walk away from Ukraine, if we turn our backs on Israel, it’s just not worth it”

In an emergency supplemental funding request to Congress on Friday, President Joseph Biden requested an aid package worth $106 billion for the defense of Israel and Ukraine.

We recognize the strategy of serious investment to deter Russia, Iran, and terrorist groups. This investment contains advancements in missile defense capabilities for US allies.

President Biden spoke about how the security package will benefit Americans:

“It’s a smart investment that’s going to pay dividends for American security for generations, help us keep American troops out of harm’s way, help us build a world that is safer, more peaceful, and more prosperous for our children and grandchildren.”

“And let me be clear about something: We send Ukraine equipment sitting in our stockpiles.  And when we use the money allocated by Congress, we use it to replenish our own stores — our own stockpiles with new equipment… that defends America and is made in America: Patriot missiles for air defense batteries made in Arizona; artillery shells manufactured in 12 states across the country, in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas; and so much more.”
