In remembrance of the tremendous sacrifice of American lives and the onset of engaging in a World War that sacrificed millions of American lives, we pay tremendous respect and honor for their sacrifices so we can enjoy our freedom today. May we seek to do all we can to ensure another Pearl Harbor does not ever happen again.
It is essential and critical for the United States government to defend Hawaii today and in the future against any and all attacks. Hawaii can be and should be better protected then it is today from a belligerent, unpredictable and highly aggressive nuclear North Korea. We strongly advocate for the operationalization of the Aegis Ashore site, along with its AN/TPY-2 sensor, at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), and for the Sea-Based X-Band (SBX) radar to be deployed out to sea and active in order to improve Hawaii’s defense against North Korean long-range ballistic missiles. We also advocate for the construction of a Medium Range Discrimination Radar and the deployment of SM-3 Block IIA interceptors – that were jointly developed with Japan and will be tested early next year – at the Aegis Ashore site in Hawaii to greatly enhance Hawaii’s ballistic missile defense in the near future.
The United States House and Senate lawmakers released the FY17 NDAA Conference Report and Joint Explanatory Statement on November 30. It provided a topline of $619 billion in defense spending and language as follows for the Defense of Hawaii.
Maximizing Aegis Ashore capability and developing medium range discrimination radar (sec. 1685)
The House amendment contained a provision (sec. 1654) that would require the Secretary of Defense to conduct a complete evaluation of the optimal anti-air warfare capability for each current Aegis Ashore site and as part of any future deployment by the United States of an Aegis Ashore site. The provision also required the Director of the Missile Defense Agency to notify Congress whether the preferred location for fielding a medium range ballistic missile defense radar for the defense of Hawaii would require an updated environmental impact statement. The Department would also be required to conduct an assessment of the ballistic and air threat against Hawaii and the efficacy of making the Aegis Ashore site at the Pacific Missile Range Facility operational and deploying the preferred alternative for fielding a medium range ballistic missile defense sensor for the defense of Hawaii.

May this significant day of remembrance and sacrifice be a reminder and motivator for the U.S. government to do everything possible to prevent and defend against all threats to the country and its people.
Never Again
