We recognize and thank the former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, John Rood, for his service to the country and his advocacy and championing of missile defense to make our nation and the world safer. We consider his leadership of the 2019 Missile Defense Review (MDR) to be a legacy and a historic strategic shift for the mission of missile defense for the nation. He oversaw the change of direction from the previous Ballistic Missile Defense Review (BMDR) to the development and implementation of the 2019 MDR, that was released in January 2019, and has set the pace for the expanded mission of missile defense.
The former Under Secretary, also had other significant policy leadership achievements for the nation during his time as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.

Last Friday, John Rood resigned from his position as the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy after more than two years in the Trump Administration, having made the U.S. and the world a safer place. John was nominated by President Trump on October 16, 2017 and was confirmed by the Senate on January 3, 2018.
