India is preparing to purchase a new batch of surface-to-air missiles for its S-400 air defense systems from Russia in a deal worth an estimated $1.2 billion, according to The Times of India defense editor Rajat Pandit on October 22. The proposal will be reviewed by India’s Defense Acquisition Council on October 23.
Indian military officials have reportedly praised the S-400 “Triumf” system’s performance in neutralizing aircraft, missiles, and drones during past confrontations with Pakistan. However, the delivery of the final two S-400 regimental units—part of a 2018 purchase agreement—has been delayed due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
