Overt Defense
Romania’s Ministry of National Defence has confirmed that Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems won the contract to supply the country’s V/SHORAD (Very Short and Short Range Air Defense) capability. The framework agreement (pending final signature) is valued at approximately €1.9 billion (roughly $2.2 billion), excluding VAT, making it the largest air defense procurement in Romania’s history. The V/SHORAD project received approval from the parliament in 2020 and was launched in 2023 as part of a broader effort to modernize Romania’s layered air defenses and improve protection against low- and medium-altitude threats.
