On July 3, 2024, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag (Parliament) approved the purchase of four Patriot systems and corresponding guided missiles. The air defense systems and missiles are partly a replacement for material delivered to Ukraine.

The investment of approx. 1.4 billion euros will be financed mainly through the regular defense budget. One system will be financed in part through the Bundeswehr special fund and from individual plan 60 in the federal budget. This individual plan includes, among other things, the financial resources for the upgrading of partner states in the areas of security, defense and stabilization. Support for Ukraine with military equipment is also financed from this budget item.
