Pacific Daily News:

Guam Del. James Moylan has included an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2024 to increase the budget for the Guam Missile Defense System by an additional $147 million, according to a news release from his office.

Moylan introduced the measure to increase funding after various discussions in the House Armed Services Committee, along with a recommendation from the military, to ensure Guam is protected from ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missile threats.

President Joe Biden’s 2024 budget submission asked for $397 million for the Guam Defense System, while the military recommended a total of $544 million. The higher amount ensures the immediate needs in the Pacific region, and also provides the basis for future offensive capability.
