A senior Iranian commander says the Army’s Ground Forces will stage a major missile exercise in the central province of Isfahan in late May.
“The exercise, codenamed Beit-ul-Muqaddas 27, will be held in Kashan’s Maranjab [Desert] and Isfahan’s Nasrabad [City] on May 23-24,” Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told IRNA on Tuesday.
He added that Iran’s Ground Forces have improved their rocket and missile capabilities which would be put to the test during the maneuvers.
“Given the conditions of the region, missile units of the Army’s Ground Forces will take part in the exercise with full force,” the Iranian commander said.
Pourdastan further said that the Ground Forces will also stage electronic warfare in Isfahan.
The Iranian Army’s Ground Forces successfully held the military exercises, named Beit ul-Muqaddas 26, in Isfahan Province in May, 2014.
Those drills marked the 26th anniversary of the liberation of the southwestern city of Khorramshahr during the eight-year imposed war with Iraq.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
Iran has also conducted other major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art army equipment.
The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
