Missile defense service member joins Space Force

Maj. John Stewart Burton, Central Command and European Command division chief of warfighter support at the Missile Defense Agency, transferred from the Air Force to the U.S. Space Force on Oct. 21, with a ceremony at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

Burton is the first military service member at the MDA to transfer to the U.S. Space Force. Serving in the office of the Director for Warfighter Operational Integration, Burton leads a team that provides Ballistic Missile Defense System test, development, and capability support to the Geographic Combatant Command. He also coordinates activities to support joint operational missile defense assets deployed within the Middle East and European theaters.

“Space is becoming increasingly important to missile defense because of the perspective space-based sensors can provide,” Burton said. “MDA’s Command and Control Battle Management Communications network is integral, by which these sensors feed threat information to the warfighter”…
