Russia Conducts Naval Exercise Amid BALTOPS 2020

The Russian military conducted exercises against the backdrop of NATO’s Baltic Operations (BALTOPS 2020) exercise in the Baltic Sea. Russia conducted a training session on conventional missile strikes with Iskander complexes.  The NATO BALTOPS naval exercise will wrap up this week.

According to NATO, 19 allies and partner nations will participate in live training events that include air defense, anti-submarine warfare, maritime interdiction, and mine countermeasure operations. It is also the first time the exercise will be commanded ashore by Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (STRIKFORNATO) at its headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal through its new Joint Operations Centre.

To note, the NATO command sent almost 30 warships to the region. Maneuvers are conducted almost at the borders of Russia.
