Arirang News:

A controversial U.S.-led missile defense system could be up for discussion during a visit to Korea this week by the United States’ top military officer.
Martin Dempsey, the U.S. chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, could discuss THAAD deployment with his Korean counterpart Choi Yoon-hee when they meet in Seoul on Friday.

That’s according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs for Asia, David Stilwell, who was speaking with Voice of America in an interview that ran on Sunday.

Stillwell emphasized that THAAD deployment to the Korean peninsula is crucial for regional defense.

Seoul’s Ministry of Defense told Yonhap News, however, that the agenda for the meeting has not yet been confirmed.

Dempsey is scheduled to arrive for a three-day visit to Seoul on Thursday.
