WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Monday said an agreement to provide Israel with $38 billion in defense aid over 10 years had taken effect. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the Obama White House and Israel, but only took effect when the last 10-year agreement ended in 2018.

The agreement includes annual payouts of $3.3 billion in military financing and $500 million in missile defense systems and coordination.

“Our implementation of this historic MOU reflects the enduring and unshakable commitment of the president, this administration, and the American people to Israel’s security,” the State Department’s spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement.
