St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
The St. Louis-area division of defense contractor Leonardo DRS Inc. has been awarded a $193 million contract to install missile and rocket defense systems on the U.S. Army’s Abrams battle tanks.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced the award last month and said the work would be performed in St. Louis. DRS Land Systems, a division of Leonardo DRS, is based in Cool Valley.
“This was a large effort, a large contract for us,” Aaron Hankins, vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Systems division, told the Post-Dispatch. “Certainly the largest since I took the lead role here in March 2017.”
Known as the TROPHY platform developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. of Israel, the tank defense system is used by Israeli ground forces.
