The Guam Daily Post:
Amid tensions in the region with North Korea, the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the attendant warships that make up Carrier Strike Group 9 arrived on Guam yesterday afternoon.
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier arrived with two Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, the USS Preble and USS Halsey. Together the vessels have brought more than 7,500 sailors and Marines to Guam for a visit expected to last a few days. The Navy estimates the visitors could pump as much as $4 million into the local economy while they’re here.
This is the Roosevelt’s first port visit to Guam. The strike group left its home port of San Diego on Oct. 6 for what the Navy said is a regularly scheduled seven-month deployment to the region.
