NATO Not Postponing Europe Missile Defense Talks With Ukraine – Source

February 2, 2017

Sputnik International:

NATO has not postponed a single meeting on a missile defense system in Europe, including with Ukraine, a source in NATO’s headquarters in Brussels told Sputnik on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the Wall Street Journal reported that NATO was putting off planned discussions with Ukraine on the missile defense system because of the “political sensitivity” and possible “overreaction by the Russians,” citing a NATO diplomat.

“No talks with any country were canceled. We will continue to exchange information, consult with each other and cooperate with our neighbors and partners as needed, step by step,” the source said, adding that NATO’s goal was to be as transparent as possible in the issue of missile defense, “especially while we are increasing our defenses.”

NATO acknowledges and respects the interest of other countries in the missile defense of the alliance, the source said, explaining that NATO has “discussed missile defense with our partners over the past years, and we continue working with them on this matter”.
