Missile Defense Agency continuing work on interceptor site in Eastern United States

In a white paper released this week, Senator John McCain (R-AZ) has called for a large military buildup to the tune of more than $430 billion over five years. Part of it, about $5 billion, would go to missile defense, which is a big part of the work on Redstone Arsenal.

One of the main missile defense proposals is the building of a Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) site in the eastern part of the United States. According to Huntsville’s Missile Defense Agency, an environmental impact study is under way to pick such a site, but there is no timeline as to when it will be released to the public. According to a release, the finalists are Fort Drum in New York, Camp Ravenna Joint Training Center in Ohio and Fort Custer Training Site in Michigan.
