The Defense Ministry announced on Monday that a final assessment is under way to scope out an alternative location to deploy the U.S.-led Terminal High Altitude Area Defense(THAAD) battery.
Ministry Spokesman Moon Sang-gyun told reporters that a South Korea-U.S. joint working-level team has concluded on-site studies and is carrying out final evaluations.
Asked if the government will purchase the Lotte Sky Hill Country Club, which is considered to be a potential candidate site, or exchange it with another plot of land, Moon said such questions need to be addressed after a site is selected.
In line with an agreement with the U.S. military, the Defense Ministry had announced that the advanced missile defense system would be deployed in the Seongsan area in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province….
