Jane’s 360:

Russia has begun developing new medium-range missiles, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told a teleconference at the National Defence Control Centre in Moscow on 5 February.

“In 2019–20, we will develop a ground-based version of the long-range Kalibr sea-launched cruise missile [SLCM] that has performed well in Syria. We will also create a land-based missile system with a long-range hypersonic missile,” said Shoigu.

According to Shoigu, development of the new long-range ground-launched cruise missile (GLCM) from existing SLCMs and air-launched cruise missiles (ALCMs) will enable industry to reduce the time the programme takes and its costs. “Moreover, it is important to increase the range of GLCM systems currently under development,” said the minister.
