JL-2 SLBM could be ‘grand finale’ of Beijing WWII parade: analyst

China is likely to show off its latest and most advanced weapons and military equipment at the major military parade in Beijing next month to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, reports Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news outlet.

….As arguably one of the most highly anticipated weapons under development by the PLA, the JL-2 “Giant Wave” second-generation intercontinental-range submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) is widely anticipated to be part of the “grand finale” of the parade, with analysts predicting that one to three of the missiles will be displayed on the back of transport trucks.

In the air, the PLA Air Force is expected to show off already familiar aircraft such as the KJ-20 and KJ-2000 airborne early warning and control systems, the J-11 air superiority fighter, and the Z-10 and Z-19 attack helicopters. Newer weapons expected to appear are the KJ-500 system and the J-15 “Flying Shark,” a carrier-based fighter aircraft. It is anticipated these latter will feature more prominently than in 2009, when production had just commenced only one KJ-500 and five J-15s were displayed…
