Ahval News:
Turkey signed a deal with local defence contractor Roketsan to produce the country’s first marine missile. The Defence Industry Directorate (SSB), which is tied to the presidential palace, will also employ electronics firm Aselsan to make launch control systems and other parts for the ATMACA missiles, the SSB said on Friday.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeking to develop and strengthen the country’s defence industry to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, boost exports and widen Turkey’s regional and global influence.
The announcement by the SSB follows the announcement last month of plans for a domestically-produced air defence missile. Turkey is already producing its own armoured vehicles and produces the F-16 fighter aircraft in partnership with Lockheed Martin.
