The Missile Defense Agency has awarded Alaska Aerospace Corp. a more than $80 million contract to test weapons for the U.S. Army.
The Kodiak Daily Mirror reports that the Missile Defense Agency on Thursday announced it had chosen AAC to support flight tests for the U.S. Army’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System, an anti-ballistic weapons system. There are currently two THAAD systems in Texas and another in Guam.
AAC operates the state-owned PSCA facility at Narrow Cape formerly known as the Kodiak Launch Complex.
AAC officials say they will likely begin preparing the complex in as little as two weeks. Flight tests are scheduled to begin in 2017.
