House to Vote Again on a Massive Defense Funding Bill

The House will take a largely symbolic vote next week to increase funding for the Pentagon as Congress’ budget stalemate drags into its fourth month.

The chamber plans to vote on the fiscal 2018 spending bill Tuesday, the same day President Donald Trump speaks before Congress during his State of the Union address, two GOP aides confirmed. The president is expected to use that speech to repeat his calls to bolster military readiness.

The $659.2 billion funding bill cannot become law, however, until lawmakers agree to lift the federal government’s spending caps for both domestic and defense programs.
