Watertown City Council Backs Missile Defense Site

July 19, 2016

Fox 28 News:

The Watertown city council is backing Fort Drum as a missile defense site.

At the urging of Congress, the Pentagon is continuing to study the possibility of a missile defense site on the east coast. The site would house dozens of missiles that would fire if an enemy – say, North Korea or Iran – fired missiles at the U.S. mainland.

The idea is, our missiles would knock down their missiles before they land and explode.

City council voted unanimously Monday night to endorse Fort Drum as the site for the missiles.

The idea of missile defense is popular in Congress not least because it would bring millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs to whatever community gets the site – though the Pentagon has not endorsed an east coast site.
