Propulsion startup Ursa Major has won a key contract from the U.S. Naval Energetics Systems and Technologies program to develop and hot-fire test a prototype solid rocket motor (SRM) for the U.S. Navy’s Standard Missile program.
The award represents a breakthrough into solid rocket propulsion for Colorado-based Ursa Major, which until now has publicly focused development efforts on liquid rocket engines such as the Hadley for Stratolaunch’s Talon hypersonic test vehicle.
