GovConWire:
Raytheon (NYSE: RTN) will manufacture, test and deliver missile interceptor rounds for the Defense Department’s Missile Defense Agency under a $466.9 million order under an initial $2.4 billion contract planned for the production of the Standard Missile-3 interceptor during the fiscal years 2015 to 2018.
The company said Tuesday it will supply 44 SM-3 Block IB interceptors for the FY 2018 order.
Mitch Stevison, vice president of Raytheon’s air and missile defense systems business, said the land and sea deployment function of the interceptor supports the upper-tier missile defense requirements of U.S. and allied naval forces.
The SM-3 Block IB missile is geared to seek and neutralize airborne threats through a two-color infrared sensor and boosted steering and propulsion technology.
